Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How old does my child have to be to join the team?
A: Our team accepts swimmers from ages 4 to 18.
Q: Who do we compete against?
A: We are part of the North Georgia Swim League. There are two divisions and a total of 19 teams. Our dual meets are primarily against those teams local to us!
Q: How do I know if my child is ready to be on your swim team?
A: We are developmental and competitive, but we are not a replacement for swim lessons. Requirements vary for different ages - see below:
6&Under: 15 Yards of Freestyle and/or Backstroke. However, coaching assistance IS allowed! We do not expect many kids in this age group to have legal form. Although we have great coaches that will be hands on, we encourage new 6&U swimmers to have prior swim lesson experience!
7-10: 25 Yards of Freestyle and Backstroke with Proper Form
11&Up: 50 Yards (2 laps) of Freestyle and Backstroke with Proper Form
Proper Form for Free: Horizontal body position, face down, alternating arms, flutter kicks, side breathing
Proper Form for Back: Horizontal body position, face up, alternating arms, flutter kicks
New members will be required to have an evaluation
Q: How much does it cost for a swimmer to join the team?
A: There is a discounted early-bird registration fee we offer until our walk-up registration weekend ends in mid-April. Then, our registration fee will be set back to our original price. Any swimmer residing outside of Gwinnett County must pay an additional $50.00 fee per requirement of Gwinnett Parks and Rec.
Ages 7-18: $165 for early registration
Ages 6&U: $100 for early registration
$10 discount per additional child (6&U exempt)
Check registration tab for all info!
Q: Are there additional costs?
A: Your registration fee covers all meet entries, the team cap, the team t-shirt, and end of season awards. However, if you RSVP for a meet and do not show up, the team will charge you event fees. Team suits are NOT required; however, swimmers MUST wear some form of our team color at meets. We recommend for swimmers to not practice and compete in the same suit as the fabric material will wear off quickly. Check the "TEAM SHOP" tab for our awesome swim gear!
Q: When and where are practices?
A: Practices are at Dacula Park Pool on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.
1st Session: 7:10-8:15 PM
Ages 4-6 swim from 7:10-7:50 (40 min)
2nd Session: 7:45-9:20 PM
First 30 minutes of 2nd Session is Dry-Land Conditioning (bring shoes)
*Sessions split upon skill level
Q: What is a typical swim meet like?
A: We have 2 types of meets - NGSL and Dual Meets. Both are FUN! Get ready to cheer on!
NGSL meets include all teams in the league and are usually split into different sessions due to the large number of swimmers attending. These meets are pre-seeded and will offer heat sheets. Judges will ensure legal technique is performed by swimmers. Ribbons and awards are offered to the top finishers per age group.
Dual meets are when we compete against one other team in our league. These meets are more laid back and shorter than NGSL meets. There are no stroke judges, no heat sheets, and everyone earns a ribbon! We do fun themes to show our team spirit!
Check the Meets tab to see the dates
Q: How can I contribute to the team?
A: You are just as important to our organization as our swimmers are. We cannot run a meet successfully without you parents! Every family is required to fulfill a volunteer position for at least 2 of our meets. You may refer to our team handbook listed at the bottom to see all positions.
Q: What should I bring to a swim meet?
-Several Towels, Chairs, Blankets
-Sunscreen, Water/Sports Drink, Healthy Snacks,
-Sharpie Pen, Team T-Shirt (and an extra shirt), books/travel games
