Swim Team Practice Guidelines for Parents and Swimmers

To help practices run smoothly and ensure a positive experience for all swimmers, please review the following reminders:

    1. Arrive Ready for Practice
Swimmers should arrive on time and ready to begin. Please make sure your child is wearing a one-piece swimsuit, swim cap, and goggles before practice begins.

To help coaches learn names quickly, please write your swimmer’s name on their right shoulder blade with a Sharpie.

    • All swimmers aged 11 and up are expected to swim 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool) unassisted, without stopping. Swimmers aged 7-10 are expected to swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) unassisted, without stopping.
    • Encourage your swimmer to give 100% effort at every practice. Hard work in practice leads to successful swims at meets!
    • Swimmers are expected to swim for the entire duration of practice

    2. Parent Guidelines During Practice
Parents are welcome in the pool area, but we ask that you stay clear of the main pool deck so coaches can work without interruption. You’re welcome to sit at the tables or bring your own lawn chairs.

If you need to speak with a coach, please wait until practices are over or send an email to set up a time. For safety and focus, please do not approach coaches on the pool deck during practice.

    3. Siblings at the Pool
Siblings who are not swimming must remain with their parents. Please do not allow them to run around the pool deck, as it can be a safety issue and distraction.

    4. Attendance Matters
We understand that families have camps, vacations, and other commitments, but consistent attendance is important. Practice time is when swimmers build skills and speed—missing practices can slow progress.

    5. Respect and Team Spirit
Please remind your child to be respectful of coaches and teammates. A positive attitude, good listening, and teamwork help everyone get the most out of practice. Practice time is for focused training—not for play.

    • UNSAFE OR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR IN OR AROUND THE POOL WILL RESUT IN IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL FROM PRACTICE.

    6. Weather Updates
In case of bad weather, cancellations or delays will be announced via the SwimTopia App. Please check there before coming to the pool if the forecast looks uncertain.

    7. Clean-Up After Practice
Before leaving, help your child gather all their belongings and throw away any trash. Let’s work together to keep our space clean and organized.

Thank you for your cooperation and support!
